Chapter Fourteen
***
âGood Morning gentlemenâ said Judge Graham as her clerk ushered the three men into her chambers. Obviously this matter is rather serious if the Attorney General is in on it.â
âYes it is Sarah and the following conversation is to be private and considered as classified. Only the four of us will be privy to what I am about to disclose, David, I briefed last night.â
âDonna, would you close the door on your way out please and we are not to be disturbed.â
âYes Maâamâ her clerk replied and then left closing the door behind her.
âSarah and Grant, you are going to find it very difficult to believe what I am about to relate to you. I was stunned and so was David here when we heard this for the first time. Just bear with me, hear it all first and then Iâll let you ask questions, okay. Iâll preface this by saying that national security is involved and that is why this has been played the way that it has. How we may feel about that personally doesnât come into it and we have to accept it despite how distasteful we may find it to be. This whole trial is a sham and we have to shut it down now. In a few months time you will be presiding over another trial, Sarah, which also involves some of the players in this trial. That trial is far more sinister in nature as you will learn later. In order to protect the integrity of the evidence and the security of the witnesses certain activities were undertaken by certain military agencies and kept off the grid. In essence they were secret operations, sanctioned at the highest levels and certain niceties became casualties for the greater good. In short, the defendant in this trial was set up and framed for the murder of Jennifer Hogarth. This woman is not dead and is under the protection of the military as we speak. She was about to be killed, but they rescued her just in time and substituted another body in her place. It gets even more complicated at this point. Garth was set up for this murder as certain parties wanted him to be blamed for another murder, that of Candy Erhardt. She too was rescued and is also in protective custody. Their testimony will be crucial as will that of another young agent currently still under cover at the Pink Lizard. How long we can leave her there is now under review â her name is Penny Carter and she has appeared in this trial also as you know. We have been trying an innocent man, not that you knew that, but our government certainly did. It was Davidâs recent digging that exposed this scheme. Your belief in your clientâs innocence, Grant, was the reason David began to question things. The DHS could not allow any of this to get out and so they reluctantly took us into their confidence. There is far more of course, much, much, more but I am not at liberty to divulge any of that at this time.
